Napier Bridge, a architectural marvel at the estuary of  Coovum river, this bridge was built in 1869 across Coovum river by Governor Napier who held this office from 1866 to 1877, this was a narrow bridge earlier later it was broadened and converted to a concrete structure in July 1943 by Arthur Hope.

The beauty of this bridge is, you can watch both sun raise in Bay of Bengal and sun set from either end of the bridge. Moreover there is a separate lane for pedestrians, so there is no need to worry about the traffic. If you are planning to visit this place for photographing, make sure you carry some ID card with you because this place is considered little sensitive for photography due to the fact that there are Indian Army, Indian Navy buildings and Tamil Nadu Secretariat etc, located in close quarters. So make sure you point your camera only towards the Coovum estuary or the river from either end of the bridge.
